10 Things About... Ellen Page
1. Ellen Philpotts-Page was born on February 21, 1987 to teacher and graphic-designer parents. A self-confessed "tiny Canadian", Page attended three schools before graduating from the Shambhala School in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2005.

2. Page's breakout role as a teenage vigilante in the hard-hitting role-reversal film Hard Candy has been widely praised. After the film's screening at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, The New York Times Magazine raved that "a star was born".

3. An outspoken feminist, Page has frequently challenged the sexism of Hollywood, slamming it as "constant". In an interview with The Guardian in 2013, Page lamented: "Only 23% of speaking roles in films today are for women. It feels we've gone backwards."

Eager to subvert the expectations of women in Hollywood, Page tends to steer clear of roles that perpetuate the image of an archetypal female. Challenging conventions from a young age, she played the role of Charlie in a fifth-grade production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
